The Palma Vela regatta sets sail near to our beach club in Palma
A well-known challenge on the international calendar
Palma Vela is one of the fundamental dates on the international racing scene. The regatta, which is well established on the racing calendar hosts a grand range of vessels and takes place a few days after the city celebrates its international boat show. The location of Assaona, our beach club in Portixol is perfect for enjoying one of the best international racing regattas up close and personal.
A varied fleet of vessels divided in to different categories
During the earlier years of this regatta, which this year is celebrating its 16th edition, it brought together boats of great length such as the Wally’s and Maxi’s, but now other types of boats participate such as the IRC, ORC, TP52, Swan, J80, FF and Dragon. Also, this year as a new addition, there will be the inclusion of the Viper 640 class in to the One-Design division, where you will also see J80 boats, the Dragon and the Flying Fifteen. Palma Vela, also has all kinds of keeled vessels (which includes some classic sail boats) which will delight all sea enthusiasts.
Defying the laws of land and sea
The organisation of the regatta Palma Vela is a true logistical challenge for the Real Club Náutico in Palma due to the large quantity of registered boats that year after year has been increasing and also in their diversity of sizes and models. In recent years the Club Náutico in Palma has made a great effort to assemble four different regatta areas and establish a team of event organisers to help those taking part on land and sea which has now reached a team of 150 people. This year this figure is set to be the same or higher.
